Session Description:

In the Alamance-Burlington School System, the primary focus of leadership development is to build each principal’s capacity to have a profound effect on student achievement. Utilizing a non-traditional professional development approach provides a research-based, collaborative model for improving school leadership. Participants in this session will explore a variety of coaching, modeling, and reflective approaches utilized in our Leadership Triads.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Create an innovative approach to leadership development for their district;
  • Understand the fundamental design elements common to any leadership development initiative;
  • Understand the Triad concept as well as the operational principles for implementation of this innovative approach.

Session Objectives:

Participants will:
  • Informally assess their own district's current approach to leadership development;
  • Consider a new methodology for providing leadership support to principals;
  • Make projections regarding the capacity of leaders in their district to manage and implement complex instructional change;
  • Sample and evaluate a variety of tools and protocols that can be adapted and utilized in supporting principals in their own districts.
